FAMILY RESOURCES toolkit

At Revolución Educativa, we believe when families and school staff work together to form strong partnerships, students have a greater chance of having an enjoyable learning experience and the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. You, as a parent, caregiver and/or mentor, have an important role to play in the education of your child. Ultimately, you are your child’s first teacher and life-long advocate!

Whether you have questions about your student’s performance, concerns about their school experience, need language access support, want to get more involved as a parent or caregiver, are navigating bullying or special education services, or simply want to ensure your student is challenged and thriving—advocating for your child starts with the same essential steps.

English Language Learners & Parents

Children who speak a language other than English at home are oftentimes classified as English Learners, and sometimes, even if they are fluent in English, they may be initially classified as such. Parent engagement with the school is very important to understand the services, supports and programs your student will be part of if classified as an English language learner.

Family Guide: Bullying

Every child has the right to feel safe and respected at school. “Bullying” includes repeated or likely-to-be-repeated behavior that is aggressive, intimidating, or harassing—and it can seriously affect a student’s ability to learn and thrive. Schools are required to take bullying seriously, whether it happens in person or online. As a parent or caregiver, you can play a key role in identifying concerns, reporting incidents, and working with the school to ensure your child—and every child—feels protected and supported.

Family Guide: Special Education

At RevED, we believe that true educational equity means ensuring students with special needs receive the individualized support, respect, and opportunities they deserve. Our commitment to inclusive education drives us to advocate for strong special education services, champion culturally responsive support systems, and partner with families and educators to dismantle barriers. We center the voices and experiences of students with disabilities because their success is essential to the future we’re building.

OTHER resources

At RevED, we understand that sometimes it can be hard to know how to best advocate for your student and how to navigate education systems. Some of us didn’t go to school in this country, so it’s natural (and common) for us to feel lost and unsure about how we can engage in our children’s educational experience. We do know that your students do best when you are part of the conversation and we recognize how much you care about your children and that sometimes it can be hard to raise concerns.
